Datoga, cunoscuți și sub numele de Barabaig sau Tatoga, sunt un grup nilotic care trăiește în principal în nordul Tanzaniei, cu un număr de aproximativ 30.000-40.000 de persoane. Ei duc un stil de viață predominant pastoralist, cu un rol semnificativ pentru animale în societatea lor, practicând în același timp și o agricultură limitată.
Trăind în unități familiale mici, societatea lor este patriarhală, cu bărbatul cel mai în vârstă conducând de obicei familia. Limba lor, Datooga, aparține familiei de limbi nilotice și este formată din diferite dialecte care reflectă dispersia lor geografică.
În ceea ce privește religia, ei urmează practicile tradiționale africane, venerând un zeu suprem, Aseeta, și venerându-și strămoșii. În timp ce bărbații sunt responsabili în principal de creșterea animalelor și de luarea deciziilor, femeile se ocupă de creșterea copiilor, de gospodărie, de agricultură și de crearea de obiecte de ceramică și de artizanat din metal.
Presiunile moderne, cum ar fi schimbările climatice, disputele legate de terenuri și schimbările sociale, amenință stilul lor de viață tradițional. Cu toate acestea, Datoga își păstrează tradițiile culturale, simbolizând moștenirea pastorală durabilă a Africii de Est.
